Father Duffy's fightclub

The good Father has suggested a bout of fisticuffs amongst the cabal to help determine the order of the line at the bar.
The current plan (which may well be adapted as we go on) is to have some 1v1s, some tag team 2v2s and then a good old no holds barred Battle Royale to round things off.

So. Are you up for the fight? If so, which part are you interested in? You are free to participate in as much or as little as you would like, but we'd like you to let us know so that we can make appropriate plans!

For this event, we're going to be using the Marquis of Ealdwic's rules. For those not in the know, the Marquis was a bit of a knave with a habit of bringing his own weapons to fights, so basically just turn up and fight!

The exact time and place are still to be determined, as we'll need to gauge interest first. Don't worry though, we'll make sure to advertise it once we know!

1 v 1 signups:
Double; Endashi; Taishaku

Tag teams:
Endashi & ???; Taishaku & ???

Battle Royale:
Double; Endashi; Taishaku

Please note that the poll gives us numbers to work with, but we're not able to see who's saying they want to participate. Remember to post here to say which of the matchups you're interested in!

Excellent initiative! But I'll probably miss it, as with most cabal events...

I'd like to participate in 1 vs. 1 tournament if I can make it, will probably be easier to organize than 2 vs. 2. And of course in big melee free for all because why not.

So it looks to me like more than half the people willing to respond want to participate. I say that's a ratio we can work with!

Now, when do we wanna do this? I'm GMT-4 but I can be on most days and times if scheduled in advance. I'm guessing a Saturday will be most convenient, but I'll bend to everyone's concurrence.

It went well, Awol!
We had fun and also thought about some ways to artificially recreate a sort of equal footing for the next times.

Maybe we could invite another Cabal some time? Or perhaps even make announcements in PVP or LFG channels and see who shows up.

yup, though the wider it's publicised the more likely you are to get griefers :\ The danger is that as soon as there's one person who decides to be disruptive, basically the event's screwed. It used to be that we could organise stuff in tsw where GMs would come and penalise griefers, but now they don't have the same level of oversight.

It also still has the same issues about equal footing and lack of prizes which makes it harder to attract non-cabal members.

I cant speak for others, but I had a great time getting my arse handed to me. I got one shotted by about everybody there. I was pleased to notice that there was no penalty for taking a dive-- no repairs were required.

As for griefers, of course you are correct. Perhaps you know some other Cabal leader? Their folks can come join the fun and we can announce in PVP or general only in the last 15 minutes for the Battle Royale? or not bother if there's enough bodies.

As for prizes, I did it for the camaraderie and the fun. O and beer. The Beer is important.

I can have a chat with folks i know, see if we can find some more interested people.

We've Held 2 scheduled ODO Fight Club events and They were Both Successful! Thank You! Fight Club is FUN!

So I saw dozens of people standing on the platform before and after Jack and I thought "Man, wouldnt it be great to have all these folks in Fight Club?" So I tried the experiment. I announced Fight Club in General Chat before a Jack event inviting folks "After Jack Falls." Then I went to fight Club and waited. Maybe 5 people showed up. It was actually pretty good.

What I learned: If people come they enjoy it. Getting People to come is hard. Most people think poorly of Fight Club although they;ve never been to one with any number of Bodies.

What I'm Gonna Do: From Now til The end of the Halloween event, I will occasionally Go to the Jack Group and Call Pop-Up Fight Club to follow at say 20 after. I'll announce it in General and See what happens. It'll last about 40 minutes until the next Jack.

What you might do: If you see me Call POP-UP Fight Club, Consider Supporting FIGHT CLUB Publicly. get on General and Tell them you had fun, or Are Going, or Think it's a swell Idea (if none of those apply, please ignore me)

If you haven't been to the Seoul Fight Club, Check it out! It's got some sort of PVP evening Magic going on making all matches fair. That said, you can still kick the Snot out of your friends! And the play field is considerably more nuanced than London. It's on the map, Check it out!
