When were you thinking of having the next fight club? :P

  • July 18, 2018, 2:04 p.m.

    How about the 28th?

  • July 19, 2018, 9:19 a.m.

Dunno if that will bee soon enough for @Cayr 😋

  • July 19, 2018, 11:16 a.m.

28th sounds awesome. There's the NYR at 5 pm GMT, but it shouldn't take long and if it does, I limit it at 1 hour anyway. It's one week away, so it'll give us time to do shameless promo and get the word out, also should be enough time for people to plan.

  • July 20, 2018, 4:16 a.m.

Event Created for the hour after the NYR.
I don't believe we've come up with a way to award prizes, so lets not think hard on that.
But if organized 2 to 5 person teams were to come about, that might be impressive. But, even if it's just a free for all, it's always a hoot. Know any other Cabals we might invite? Bigger crowds are always more fun. And if we can get some Fight Club enthusiasts inside other Cabals, it might become easier to organize a real invitational some day soon eh?

  • July 20, 2018, 8:47 a.m.

It could just be a "invite who you want", or we could ask maybe Owl's Nest folks? Nine Swords? (Ghostchilde can do promo, maybe :P) About prizes - since it's hard to "officially" track the kills, I was thinking it could be fun if it could be treated like sort of a potluck party. If you want, you can bring something (it doesn't have to be fancy or very valuable necessarily, maybe like a purple container key, a summoning essence or whatever you have lying around you're not overly fond of or don't plan to sell for mad cash) and then at the end of the event give it to whoever you think did the most awesome job at murdering you. Or award several people! Doesn't matter! It'd obviously be more symbolic, and you wouldn't have to bring or give away anything if you don't want to, I just thought that maybe it could be nice.

We could definitely do teams of 2, that'd be cool. If the teams get too large, it might spoil the chaos-y fun a tad. Bigger teams would be awesome if there was an option to do like Capture The Flag somehow, El Dorado style. But idk how we could make that work, since there's nothing you really can pick up...Maybe if there were designated corners as "bases" for each team and the goal would be to put down something there, we could use event flowers or beehives if someone has them left over, or the fireworks? Although idk if it'd work, since those actions aren't interruptable, I don't think.

Keeping in mind that the Fight Club space is and must remain open to the public, we can organize as we like but know it can be undone by a small group of determined individuals. This is a perpetual reality in a public PVP instance. Still, in my experience, this has never happened. But the possibility exists. Thus I'd suggest less organization until such time as a demand for it arises from the players. I've seen folks complain about the unevenness of the competition(Now largely fixed by FunCom) about the lack of players (it's fun with 3 but more fun with 6) but seldom complaints of a lack of prizes or organization. Given what I've seen before, I think teams on the fly can be organized fairly quickly.
As for other Cabals, let's invite them in just to let them learn what we know- that Fight Club is a Blast - and once we have some interest propose more organized events in the near future. Maybe they'll even help with organization.

I fear that any structure or seeming complexity we impose on those who have no experience may seem a barrier to entrance. I like it when the timid feel free to watch for ten minutes without commitment and then try it out without fear of disrupting the event if they find it not to their liking. To me, that's gold, that's how we gain an enthusiast.

So in brief, my 2c is: Yes to inviting Cabals, skip prizes and more organized matches for now as we build more interest.

If we spread the word with a rollicking hour of Free-for-All play, we might gain enthusiasts and set ourselves up for a brighter, tighter, more organized tomorrow.

Sorry, I will not be able to make it to Fight Club, as there's a funeral I have to go to on Saturday and I won't be back home until Sunday. God. Damn. I was so looking forward to it : / (Unless you want to move it...I know Alphabethead, Chilli and Aysia wanted to come, but can't at that time, either... hint-hint).

  • July 22, 2018, 3:49 p.m.

    Sorry for your loss.
Moving it? Easy enough.. Sunday at that same time it is!

  • July 29, 2018, 7:23 p.m.

    How'd we do?
For a while there, there was an awful lot of players. Were they all ODO or have we successfully infected other Cabals?
From my perspective, seemed to go really well, But then again, I'm kinda biased.

  • July 30, 2018, 9:26 a.m.

I think it went well, but we could still consider maybe some different structures, maybe 2 v. 2 or something. As far as participation, I saw a few non-ODO people there, 2 from Ashes of Muninn, I think. And then some others, but I can't remember what cabal.

You could perhaps advertise it on the funcom forums the way drenneth (or is it dreamingwolf? I don't usually pay attention to pvp) does for the shambala events. I wonder if the fight club map has a population limit the way other zones do? I can imagine it getting to crowded for strategic ganking, otherwise. . .

As for an alternative structure, one of the suggestions I'd heard in another cabal that was planning an event like this was to do a "shirts vs. skins" team event. Two (or more) teams would be formed and each team dresses in a "uniform" that makes them easy to tell apart from the other team. It doesn't have to be nearly naked vs. clothed-although that would be awesome, IMO!. It could be green team, red team, blue team, etc. There are already chat channels for illuminati, templar and dragon that could be used for team coordination if groups/raids aren't an option, and we all have a faction uniform to wear, so no one would have to be out of pocket for a "pvp uniform". Keep in mind, friendly fire would still be a problem. My high-explosive grenade, for example, isn't going to exclude my buddies on team templar just because they're wearing red shirts instead of blue :-D

If you form a group then the usual "no friendly-fire" rule applies. Not sure if you can form a raid in the fight club, but it's easily investigated 😊

So I've been thinking about this. (Yes, it hurt a little)
I Dream of THE ODO FIGHT CLUB Invitational. A Tournament where we invite a few other Cabals to Fight Club.
It's by Invitation, The Cabal would need to Front a Team of X players to face off, Round Robin with the other teams invited (And ODO of Course).
The team dynamics prevent friendly fire problems.
Matches are Timed say Z minutes and whichever team has the most survivors at The end gets the win.
No returns after defeat in the last minute maybe?
If there were 3 invited teams plus ODO, we would have 12 matches. (4 teams meeting 3 others one at a time.
After penultimate standings were determined A free for all by team would be held without people returning after defeat. Last player standing would earn P points for their respective team and THEN the winner would be determined for the Tourney.
Team with the most points at the very end wins the tourney.
ODO as Host would need to come up with the Prize(s).

There are some determinations to be made, such as
    what's the optimal time period Z :2 min? 3? 6?
Do we do it all at once (IE all in one Saturday evening) or in smaller batches : Tonight ODO VS TEAM A then Team B vs Team C-- results posted to standings chart - maybe on our site? Final resolution perhaps taking a few weeks.
What's a reasonable Prize or Prizes?

Designated teams would be required to represent the respective Cabals. These teams would persist through the whole tourney.(With emergency subs if needed)
The Cabals would heap appropriate adoration on their team.(Until they Ultimately fall to the ODO powerhouse)

To pull all this off, we'd need volunteers as Players and others as Referees.

Biggest Question: do we have sufficient enthusiasm within ODO and without, to staff this fully?

My thought to this point was to build enthusiasm both with our folk and to expand to other cabals. Are we there yet?

Anyway, your Comments and suggestions are encouraged.

I like the idea in general, however, I have some notes:
    1) Personally, I don't think we're there yet. I think we should wait and try to get more people involved - right now, it's been just ODO people with a couple of stragglers from here and there. An official invitiation has been extended to Agnitio, though, we can see if we can get them involved in the next fight club.
    2) Even with involving other people, I don't necessarily like the idea of it being cabal vs. cabal - that would keep out anyone who is unaffiliated, from outside of the three participating cabals or whose cabal doesn't have a full team of X people to send. Plus having the option to do cross-cabal teams might be more fun and better for a sense of community and whatnot (well aware that people will most likely group with their friends and their cabals, but we, too, have ex-ODO members join Fight Club, who are, formally speaking, members of other cabals now (which we will never accept, of course, as good kidnapping friends).
    3) A large part of the postive feedback I've heard about Fight Club mentions its edge over other PvP type things due to the fact that it's so relaxed, fun and not overly structured or competitive. This sort of ties into the last point, too. I don't think we should try to make it overly strict or organized, that might ruin good fun. I would love to see group matches, and why not have prizes, but we could do freely-formed teams, i.e. doesn't have to be the same cabal, so that everyone who wants could participate, and keeping it to a portion of an usual Fight Club event - i.e. do Battle Royale style random murder, too, and then some matches of the more organized team fights with no running back in with one minute to go, and awarding prizes. That might be a good balance. Plus it'll keep engaged the people who only want random murder, so people can move in and out.

OK. I ;like all of that.
Just so you get my Vision on this thing.
I like the Idea of an Invitational- it has some panache as well as keeping the possibilities of Rif Raff to a minimum. I concur we aren't there yet. That can wait for a better time though. I particularly like inviting specific Cabals to Join us just to check it out. I think most people who attend fight Club, Like Fight Club. Getting enthusiasm elsewhere in the Secret World can only benefit us in the long run.

In so much as anything is a tradition in Fight Club, I have tried to keep it to an hour officially. If we made it say 90 minutes with the first 30 for teams of X size followed on the hour with the usual Free For all.... that might work. I dunno if we are quite ready for that though. I do look forward to the day when a 5 on 5 team match happens.... but that's a longer term goal.

Again, we would do well not to do anything to Alienate anyone - returning Fight Club Participant or especially newbies. I absolutely want to keep it Light in tone. I also want to keep the free beer.

In short : Please, Go bat your Lovely Eyelids at another Cabal Leader or two and get them and theirs to come Join us for the next Free for all!

That's a big part of why I like Fight Club myself.
    .
You might notice I don't team up in game much -- I love it, but I'm terrible at it- I get lost, I die, I fall off things like stairs. I hate the pressure to perform well for my teammates - I hate letting them down. Fight Club is all the Camaraderie and none of the pressure. Plus Free Beer/

I think that the next step is to set another date and then get some other cabals involved - they can stick events on their calendars too, as we don't need to know signup numbers for now.

In the future, if we set a deadline for signups of the day before, we could then get a better idea of numbers coming, in case we wanted to do something like teams or prizes 😎
