Have you guys ever thought about making a "History of Omne Datum Optimum" section? I think I'd be interested in learning about how the cabal first came together and how it managed to survive since the beginning of the game.

It's something which has occasionally come up in conversation, but generally the interest has only been so low we haven't ever got round to it - I think I've been asked 3 times in the last 3 years?

In brief, ODO came together during the beta testing of tsw. It was made one of the Founding cabals during beta - though that was basically a lottery for who got picked for it, rather than it being a mark of how good anyone was.
Since the title went live, our population's fluctuated, as it always will. The original rank system was created with role playing in mind, and was loosely based on the structure of a chapter of the Knights Templar. That also meant that it was bloated, confusing and entirely pointless as we're limited to only 5 ranks (including the cabal leader) in the game. As the cabal matured, we progressed to a less authoritarian, more democratic structure.
Rather than having power rest with one individual who gave out instructions, it worked out better to have a council of officers who share power and decision making. Because TSW covers all the timezones, and we have members from all over the globe, having one person in charge didn't really work out in practice - if there was an EU person in charge, then they'd often not see the oceanics, and miss out on East coast US prime time, and vice versa. We discussed just making all of the officers shared leader, but decided that for situations like tied votes, having a chair person as leader would work better. To stop any potential megalomania, we decided to rotate the position every 3 months.

The real reason we've lasted as long as we have is that we have good members. There's a fairly low tolerance of drama, but that tends to be fairly self policing, with people just not really responding to it leading to most drama lovers leaving for more exciting pastures. The cabal's attitude towards newer players also really helps - we're happy to help people learn at all levels, and that helps people feel accepted into the community.

You should consider adding some wild tall tale fabrication in addition to this current story.

Like... The founding members were all navy seal officers. On their down time, they started this cabal. One day the went on a secret mission and were never heard from again. We are carrying on... Knowing one day they shall return...

    Spice things up...
