As some of you remember, waaaaay back when the new site was still fantasyland and stuff for it was getting planned, we briefly talked about making badges for members' profiles, implementing like a "Cabal Achievements" thing which, would a) potentially be really fun, b) could be a nice way to recognize people for stuff and c) get a little more personal with each other. The way it would work has not been figured out yet, but the point would be to engage with others and poke some fun at each other, so maybe a member-nominating-member system, sort of like KAPs used to work. Anyway, If you have ideas for badges, feedback about this whole idea of a badge system in general, comments on other people's ideas, whatever, just post 'em here! Go ahead and brainstorm. Some key notes to think about:

    • Can be related to in-game stuff, but doesn't have to - can be stuff based around something on the forums or on Discord.
    • The idea is to recognize people for an achievement in the cabal in an in-jokey way that'd be relatable. That would ideally mean that anyone could "earn" any badge, so no 1-member-specific stuff, (i.e. we're not going to get Tai a "I've lost my pants!" badge).
    • Not for stuff that overlaps with in-game achievements - that means no dungeon/raid/lair clears - and no "on-purpose-achievable" stuff, if that makes sense. Of course that's a bit inevitable, but just think about avoiding grindy stuff, such as "10 deaths on the same boss" or something like that.
    • Should be something that can reasonably be tracked. That sort of ties into the last point why grindy stuff isn't a good idea - nobody has neither time nor the will to keep an eye on and write down whenever they run with someone specific and how many clears that person has gotten, etc.
    • Don't get (too) mean. There's talking shit (but with all the love in the world) and then there's flat-out mean, I hope we all know the difference.
    • Thread will be closed on June 15th.

Making a separate reply as to give some examples that we talked about in admin already, what I mean by those "achievements" and what could badge names potentially look like (please note that those are currently just some ideas that have been thrown around, not set in stone):

    • "I Just Wanted One Dungeon" - 1 year in ODO
    • "Double Trouble" - 2 years in ODO
    • "Stockholm Syndrome" - 3 years in ODO
    • "Get Off My Lawn" - 4+ years in ODO.
    • "Herding Cats" - Organized a lair
    • "Stair Master" - fell into the little gap before the stairs in Ankh last boss fight and got back out without dying.
    • "I Don't Need You Guys" - finished a boss fight as the sole survivor.

Just to get the ball rolling on what it could be. Or if you think the whole idea is stupid, you can say that, too :D

Badge for participating in dungeoneering event and lottery. That would assume we can have badges with a counter so you can earn it multiple times,

Could also split up the 1,2,3 year in ODO badges into smaller ones if they are supposed to be applied automatically. For example one per quarter or half year.

"I held the line"-awarded for successfully completing a duo scenario even though your partner DC'd for some (or all) of the scenario. Nomination to occur by the person who got DC'd. Could even do it in tiers based on the level of the scenario, if you wanted to get that picky.

"Couldn't stay away"-awarded for returning to the game (with main toon--alts don't count) after an absence of a month or longer. Nomination to occur by whoever notices that an absent friend has finally returned.

"Because we could?"--awarded for completing SM/E1 NYR with private team of 5 or less. Pix or it didn't happen!

"CoEd Naked Dungeoneering"--complete an E1 dungeon with everyone at IP125 (or lower) even if you had to take off all your talismans and good weapons to do it AND do it while your toon is wearing as little clothing as the game will let you get away with. Pix or it didn't happen!

"Bug Hunter"--submit a screen shot of a funny/cool/interesting bug that's graphics-related, or can be proven with a screen shot or series of screen shots.

"I led ODO and all I got was this lousy badge"--for any past or present officer of standard bearer rank or higher

badge of kidnapping people into cabal, dungeon, lair, raid, or just some random stupid things :P

  • May 23, 2018, 5:58 p.m.

You are neither of those things, so even if we had those, you're not gonna get 'em :P.

26-"Here, Hold This Grenade" -Gave 5 willing people alternative DPS builds which improved their performance (Should only be valid if the build was asked for, otherwise people would bother eachother with unwanted build suggestions, things would get unkind :D)

    I'll keep updating!

    Queen of Kidnapping Badge

  • June 6, 2018, 3:55 p.m.

Idk if we would have to do a counter (because it sort of runs into the tracking/potential grindiness problem I mentioned before), but some of these are really good and definitely could work - like the "taught someone to heal/tank" or "shared dps build to" could work for helping even just one person, which is still awesome. :)

Yeah, that was the plan. I realized the first batch of my recommendations were more rewarding of individuals instead of the community as a whole, so that's why I came up with these. Thanks Cayr!

And if we're having people "grinding" favors and actual help, it shouldn't be a bad thing, right?

"Reluctant Tank" or "You want me to do what? "
    - get invited/kidnapped into a group then told that you are tanking. Get the job done.

Don't know why I thought of that one.
