Hey there,
Thanks for getting me in. I already felt a warm welcome yesterday, when I got pulled in my first "this will be easy" lair with some of the cabal. Had much fun, looking forward for more. Well looking forward to less dying maybe, but for sure more.
Anyways, maybe some words rg. Myself. I am 38, classic things attached, happy wife, house, job, sport and other freetime activities, you know it.
I am taking part in the MMO genre for almost 20 years, to be exact since I was in university in 2000, if I remember right. Perfect time these days - much freetime to kill, not much money - so paying 9 Euro for a full month of joy was a fair deal (next to all the parties). I started with DAoC, Midgard side these days. Switched some years later for a short time to WoW, but didn't like it there. That basically was the time, where I got unsettled, checked out LotRO, Age of Conan, Guild Wars. During these days, I moved to the US for job reasons for some years, with only a laptop, so no online games for this one (career kick-off, you need to do what you need to do).
Back in Germany, I finally got back to online gaming with The old Republic as I (and fun fact my wife) are both huge Star Wars fans. I do not recall how it happened but I also did some researches on an online game that has a more "realistic" approach than the typical high or low fantasy elf-orc-dragon-convo. Might also be that it was part of one of Funcoms Age of Conan newsletters. I ended up with Secret World at the end. Played it in parallel to ToR, and bought my lifetime sub, cause I wanted to support the developers. It was a fair deal in my eyes these days - no fixed payment plan, but an one-off invest, with no additional obligations. Did play the original game till Tokyo and lost track after they announced their move to SWL. Only thing I did, was transferring my lifetime sub, but could not convince myself to get started all over again. In the meantime I dropped my ToR abo, too, so again there was some sort of gaming gap.
Right now I've closed it with ESO, and of course SWL. Both due to their terrific story telling, and due to their different focus have their place in my heart. SWL is the more fresh one, cause - as I wrote - I have seen the whole story already. But right now I must confess I forgot most parts, so I am again sucked in enjoying the lore...
So far to me. Hope that helps to get a little insights on the Cerlagon guy, who's char is not named that way. Oh well, maybe that is a good part too, at least to understand me.
There is a P game in Germany called "the black eye", we used to play when I was a teenager. My original character was a kinda musketeer named "Cerlagon ya Cranheyr" - which became my alter ego in the Internet afterwards, as I did run one of the major fansites to that game. I used to name most of my chars like that or at least my accounts in gaming communities. No Cerlagon in SWL though, cause a fantasy name just does not fit for me.
So it is Richard LaCroix, nick name Savate (the French martial art of the foreign legion) - he was my Shadowrun character. Thought that might be a better fit, than Cerl. And if you might wonder about the little cute hamster in my Profile? My first online game DAoC had a class called Berserker, which could transform to a big hairy "don't know the name"-thing. In the game they were called "hamsters". I mained one, so it stick with me: Cerlagon, nickname, hamster-pic, profile - end of story.
Thanks again for having me!
Cheers
Cerl
