You'll have to start fresh if you choose to play on the TSW:L server
Noooo, all my 10k monsterkills for nothing!! :p (this also means all of our end-game NM players are probably not happy)
So, any ideas how ODO will go forward? Will ODO be on both servers or are we move in total to the new TSW:L server?
I'll take a look when it's live, but since all characterprogress is lost on TSW:L, I'm not so sure I'll stick around long. Also, not any word on new storycontent 🙁.
Well, as for ODO, I'm really not sure DeForestt. We'll need a lot more officers, that is for sure and seems to be obvious and no secret. We will have something in place I'm sure.
We'll have to wait and see what FC does with SWL tbh. Given that they're advertising it as a shared world RPG rather than an MMORPG, they may have changes which impact the way cabals function.
Just to point out btw, beta.secretworldlegends.com/ has beta signups on it (and is probably going to be slow to load for a while because of it!!)
Personally I'm excited about combat system changes that are so drastic, they make Legends incompatible with current Secret World. I always liked core framework of combat in Secret World but end game itemization left me apathetic towards system in general. Granted, there is much greater possibility that changes will destroy what I liked and exaggerate parts I didn't enjoy, but for now I see it as good news.
Regarding achievements and so on - not bothered about that, never saw them as a goal, more like a guideline towards certain activities I might like to try. End game equipment is just material possessions (well, virtual, to be precise), means nothing to me.
Given that Legends is not described as MMORPG, but a "shared-world" game, I'm not sure if same concept of cabal would be applicable there. My search for what this "shared-world" business could mean revealed Destiny, a "shared world shooter". I never played Destiny but shooter comparison bring player communities akin to Counter-Strike clans back to mind. On the other hand Warframe is a shooter as well and have clans with more MMORPG-like features like clan base, research and trading.
I have bad news for those of you who liked Elaisse: starting anew in Legends means I'm going to resurrect my old "main", who was Dragon, so I might not even be able to join ODO if it moves to Legends in a state resembling current one.
There is still hope. From FAQ:
"Will you continue developing new content for Secret World Legends?
We have plans to create all-new story-driven content for Secret World Legends in the future, which we'll be able to discuss in more detail after the relaunch of the game."
Heh. Megillot in drag. That I gotta see 😀
I don't care 'bout the power-level of my character, so they can reset it as they see fit.
I don't care 'bout vanity items - never needed them in the first place, so the choice to leave them is of no consequence for me.
I don't really care 'bout combat and game mechanics, so they can change them... If only The Ability Wheel and free will of picking up abilities would remain. I'm with Megillot on this - playing in first three locations was great - you got to choose abilities, but you could do it in your own way. I'm terrified how much of TSW feel will be lost when they (if they) implement some skill-trees or something.
But what realy fucking bugs me? Story progression. I think I know why - they actually shot themselves in the knee with Aegis and Augments and they need to level everything down to even think of new content (the gap between endgame players and beginners is just too much to create a mission that can be a challenge for both groups)... But... That's XP's. Not story progression. I'm a roleplayer at heart. I have a whole history of Ezgadi created in this hairy head of mine. Everything I did in TSW, everyone I met (yes, that too means you lot) I filtered into some kind of feverish fantasy 'bout a character and a world. Of course - they can do a small nod for old players - "you have a dream of what has transpired up until this point, now go play it again to refresh your memory", or what not... But I consider it wishful thinking at best.
With all that said - I'm not completely averse to the idea of revision and reset. It can be done properly and interestingly. I mean - I survived the change from World of Darkness 2 ed. to revised ed. and didn't really nag too much.
It's to be seen. I like the world so much, there are only few things that can really make me abandon the game.
PS: Hey, Megillot - if you start as a Dragon - do sent me frelling message, eh? Maybe I won't be The Loneliest Lil' Dragon anymore:>
PS2: So... Are we considering some End Of The World Party? "Afore the Apocalypse, afore we get erased in this form and shape... LET'S PARTAY! -bring your own beverages and pets to The Horned God. The person in front of the screen, usually described as The Player, is also obliged and bound to get shitfaced with a beverage of her/his choosing"
We'll see what comes before we start organising the End of the World Party 😉
Tbh, we've got so little information to work from that it's not really possible to make any proper plans atm :S
For me, the only thing that kept me playing was ODO and the community at large. Story was great long time ago, but the trickle of content meant that I since then lost both track of where that story is meant to be and coherency, any mission just seems standalone now. I have GM pack, so I will try the thing anyway.
For how long, will depend on community and group dynamics.
But... but... It's an excuse for a party! C'mon, people! Wether or not the world ends - at least at some point we'll all get drunk as hell.
I mean - I'm polish, I can judge a persons character only after I drank with him or her:D
so will we move over or?
2.0; ..if game gets its own client during beta or at least for relaunch, then I am all set for TSW 2.
No one knows yet. We do not know what role cabals or community in general will have in the new game. If our members want to move or stay. All of this will be figured out as we are nearing launch and more details from beta become available.
Could someone explain what the concept of "shared-world" means better than Google does? I'm seeing on some websites that SWL is going to be more solo-focused? Isn't that what the casuals were complaining about when the game first launched, that it's too multiplayer?
For what it's worth, Andy Benditt indicated on twitter that "cabals are still a thing".
I sure hope so. I got quite fond of you guys.
...Don't tell anyone, I have a reputation of a heartless bastard to uphold.
Well, one thing this announcement does, if nothing else, is confirm that I won't be coming back to TSW or SWL. It's not that I object to the changes per se - but starting again from scratch is that extra hurdle that means I won't be back, as there's nothing to come back to. So Mieke 'Hatherley' Hatherley, her sisters Charlotte and Wiebke and her Illuminati cousin Richard will all be taking the blue pill and returning to the world where they can't see the bees, the angels and the elder gods.
With any luck, these changes will be good for Funcom, it will be good for The Secret World as an IP (or as a brand :shudder:) and good for, hopefully, a lot of the existing player base. When Romain Amiel took over from Joel as Game Director, one of the first things he said was 'there would be no new playfields after Tokyo', which was where my motivation to play started to wander. Now, with SWL, he's saying clearly 'season 2 and 3 will happen within SWL', so that should, at least, mean new content at some point down the pipeline (although not that soon: Tokyo has to be re-released first. But still, it's a roadmap to new content). Hopefully not too much that is special about TSW is removed, and equally hopefully, the engine gets it's much-needed improvements.
But I will be watching all of this from the sidelines: thanks for having me in ODO, thanks for not kicking me out in the 12 months since I stopped playing, and many thanks for all the memories, the conversations, the friendships, the raids, the dungeons, the scenarios and the guild events. ODO represent!
Cheers Hatherley, you are missed 🙂 We'll see what transpires and hope it is not too terrible. I'll keep playing anyway (Shocker). ODO will survive for a while and maybe we'll meet up again.. when the planets align into the shape of a Templar Cross and all our enemies lie in ruins 🙂
Have Fun Hatherley. Perhaps the next modern day MMO? This is not... the end........
Ok, by this point it's mere speculation on my part and I sure as hell don't want to instill even more panic, but... I don't have anywhere else to share it, so excuse me:
Remember, how I usually bitch about the fact that character progression in his/her faction stopped after level 13? And that since the release the weight on faction rivalries dwindled and shifted (to the point where global domination and overall significance of winning in El Dorado, Fusang and Stonehenge became obsolete)?
Now they say that it'll be more player oriented, less people met on servers.
And they don't whisper a word about factions in SWL.
And on the poster there's only one storyline NPC - Rose White?
Utinam falsus vates sim... If they throw away factions or leave only one, or make some ungodly amalgamate of all three... I'm going to get myself veeery drunk. And in the sad way, too ;D
EDIT:
Ah, didn't check al the sources. There will be factions, thank God:D
