Ok, by this point it's mere speculation on my part and I sure as hell don't want to instill even more panic, but... I don't have anywhere else to share it, so excuse me:

Remember, how I usually bitch about the fact that character progression in his/her faction stopped after level 13? And that since the release the weight on faction rivalries dwindled and shifted (to the point where global domination and overall significance of winning in El Dorado, Fusang and Stonehenge became obsolete)?

Now they say that it'll be more player oriented, less people met on servers.
And they don't whisper a word about factions in SWL.
And on the poster there's only one storyline NPC - Rose White?

Utinam falsus vates sim... If they throw away factions or leave only one, or make some ungodly amalgamate of all three... I'm going to get myself veeery drunk. And in the sad way, too ;D

    EDIT:
Ah, didn't check al the sources. There will be factions, thank God:D

  • March 30, 2017, 2:02 p.m.

They're only including Shambala at release too, so much less PVP factioning. Sad to hear that Hatherley, but I totally understand :\

I hope we'll get more info soon about what's going to be going on. As Kestri said, Andy has said that cabals are still a thing. Who knows, we might even get some of the cabal functions we've hoped for for years! We may even be able to go cross faction and have to start designing even more banners for ranks 😀

As we get more of an idea what's going on, we'll be able to make more decisions. It would also be useful to know if there are people who are intending to remain active in TSW but not try out SWL btw, so if you or your friends are considering that, please do tell us about it!

    Hello,

While I'm disappointed that I would lose some of the hard-earned achievements that, in my limited spare time, I managed to accomplish - getting the Occult Oxford Tweed outfit being one of them - I do see some bright sides to this. One of which is that some friends and acquaintances (and, indeed, some game studies academics) who'd been thinking about jumping in will now have a better "ground floor" experience if they join SWL.

I will likely play SWL: I'm a GM, so there's that.

I'm of two minds as whether to migrate and replicate my existing character over as much as possible - he really is a magical mini-me and I'm inclined to do that - or whether to start a new character as part of a different faction (probably Dragon, as its worldview is probably the closest to my RL one, and I love Korean food.) The future plans of ODO would weigh into that decision: I do like the collective interpretation of the Templar perspective, not to mention being rather fond of you all.

I'm on a sabbatical from TSW due to burn out. I was planning on coming back in a couple months anyway, and I think I'll enjoy starting a new character on the new system. I hope ODO is still there in TSW:L, but I understand that it might be difficult running a cabal across two versions of the game.

    shivers
As much as I am soul-bound to Templars, the thought scares me. I have high doubts that they will try and remove one of the key points of TSW being TSW - the faction rivalry plays not only the good ol' role of Alliance vs Horde for the players (PvP, "i hate all who is not the same colour as me" stuff), but lies in the base of the lore and the universe itself. TSW isn't simply about fighting the greater dark evil thing(ies).
Not to mention all the voiced dialogues and lines of text - dammit, that would be simply stupid to throw away all that hard, fine-tuned work to gain... what? No, no, this couldn't possibly be happening. I believe Rose is the one on the poster just cause we're the oldest faction evah (also too good to go second) 😝 Maybe they will switch the main pic from time to time or/and the time comes.

As for the future for this one Run-girl... If TSW is really ending (I'm not saying it is, mind you, but it still feels like the universe is ending and I'm sitting on a porch with a cup of tea, watchin' it burn) she'll go down with this ship. Time has come for her to go just as she came to be: shy, confused and on the run. I'll be swapping out of the cabal with her and staying as a newborn alt, Long-legs, to keep in touch and ramble about silly hats from time to time (Run will still be available for help and stuff if needed).

And while I'm oh-so-not-sure if I'll try out Legends... I have lots and lots of doubts about the revamped combat system (NO! NOT THE TREES!), the not-pay-to-win-system (they need to get their money somewhere, and if not from solid BtP, then say hello to the ridiculous amounts of onesies, hats and unicorns). But, if that happens, I might as well join ODO in a reborn form. Whatever form that will be. Cause, y'know, you guys!

I am pretty bummed. I just shelled out for the rest of the DLC and I won't get to even see the tokyo dungeons. I am probably not going to play until SWL comes out. Mainly because they announced the effective death of TSW as is: " Future development will be focused on Secret World Legends exclusively."

Now I will have to wait and see what SWL ends up looking like. I'm pretty annoyed that the joke of "oh they'll just call the relaunch a reset" was actually the plan.

People have been asking for refunds of subs and have got them so it may be possible to get a refund on DLC if you have a word with the GMs over at help.funcom.com (can't promise, but it's worth a try).

Personally I'm kind of intrigued about SWL. I'll certainly be trying it out and I'm reserving judgment until after I've had a chance to play it.

We're not yet entirely sure what shared-world means tbh. They've been talking about reducing the number of players you see in a playfield, so that you'll be less likely to run across people whilst in Kingsmouth (for example), but still see other players in London and Agartha. They've also suggested that all the game content will be doable solo, or in groups. So I guess there will either be dungeons where you have NPC support, or scaling difficulties based on player numbers.
That could also explain why nightmare dungeons are not going to be available at launch, to give them a bit more time to check how that system works out, and how it all scales up into NMs.

They've said that cabals will still be around, and there will be big multi player events like the golems, but they're being moved to Agartha (bit like Hatekeeper was) instead of being out in the player zones.

ODO will continue to provide as much support as we can - till the open beta drops or we get more info though, it's hard to say just how much that will be. They've said for example that they want to make chat less obvious, so it'll be on autofade.
The sad truth is that TSW as we know it is going into maintenance mode. As far as I can see, it's no longer possible to buy TSW, so there are no new players coming in. All new development will be for SWL, so whilst the servers will remain on, the numbers of players is going to slowly decay until there's only a few die hards left. ODO is not going to close in TSW, and we will try to remain as wonderful as we always are for as long as we have active members.

This is a purely personal opinion, but I would expect the population of TSW to crash as soon as SWL becomes widely available - be that open beta or launch.

I think there is scope for SWL to be a great game. We all know TSW's story is fantastic, and if they've managed to improve combat, client optimisation and the look of the characters, then it should be able to build on that foundation. The reticule combat system reminds me of tera and wildstar, both of which have good combat for most players. I do worry that it's going to create another game where lag is a game killer though, which would impact the world wide single server idea. Honestly, till we see what they've done though, it's just scaremongering, so I'll try to leave that alone!

TSW population has already crashed, with progress becoming meaningless until SWL, there are not many ppl playing

I heard the first rounds of beta keys went out. Did any of you 'oldschoolers' get a key? I know you have to sign an NDA but i mean...i just want to see a 30 second gameplay video. Sounds like they released keys yesterday, today and the next "wave" will be next week or the week after.

I did ask for a refund but it's been acouple days. I asked to see if there will be any benefit to having purchased the issues as we progress towards SWL (bonus items, etc). If not, if i'm eligible for a refund I want it... $40 is $40 I guess.

As to "shared world" think... hub cities where everyone meets, but when you got a zone it's a solo/duo/group zone. Almost like GW2 but without random group quests. I think the idea is to increase the story telling potential of the game without all the MMO grindyness? Not sure. The keyword that made ME angry at first was "action RPG". Cuz ARPGs are traditionally like...diablo...torchlight...path of exile...grim dawn etc

I'm getting more and more excited to this TSW relaunch, especially after this BTV interview: wiki.crygaia.org/view/User:Hsekiu/sandbox

    • Looking forward to see the Whispering Tides event f since I wasn't a TSW player at launchtime.
    • No more 10ks in SWL! Good.
    • No augmentwheel. Good.

Dungeons and raids will still be a thing and nightmare mode is being reworked. It seems we need eachoter in SWL. So my vote goes that ODO will move to SWL. I'll be present there.

I have to admit this has pricked my ears up a bit again. I found the game difficult as a re-joining player, the new gearing ideas and such did overly complicate the game. With losing a long period of "gear gaining" I found the bits of the game I enjoyed frustrating to be far behind. I much rather help than be helped! I guess I prefer zero commitment now where I can just turn it off at the drop of a hat, almost entirely solo play but see/chat now and then. Perhaps this is a fit!

It has to be a decent idea financially for them providing the original is still running as well. Good for new and re-joining players. But probably not great for well geared long time players!

I'm exited for SWL, I singed up for beta...
It will give me a reason to play...

    This is good news!
I (like a lot of players) don't like the augment system.
I heard a rumor of a 64bit client, is that true?

Something very...illuminati...about the NDA. I feel like it's probably part of the NDA that you can't even confirm you are in the beta... so those of you who may or may not be in the beta. How do you hypothetically feel?

This is rather easy, if you are not in beta you can confirm that you are in fact not in beta. While if you are in beta you can't confirm or have to lie. Hence anyone not confirming is in beta.
